WING BOWL 13 UPDATES

610 WIP Sports Talk Radio | Philadelphia

12/20/04- AICE has been informed by an Eater attempting to call-in a stunt at WIP 610 AM that they will not be taking any stunts until Jan 3rd.

12/17/04- And two more make 17! Two more contestants qualified for the Wing Bowl today, moving closer to the field of 25. The Bermanator who ate 5lbs of Matzo Balls in 5:20 while Mo Green ate 6 Schmitter sandwiches to qualify. If you include returning Champion, Sonya Thomas from South Korea and the four time Champion Bill "El Wingadore" Simmons that makes 19 which means that there are only five spots left because there is the "Wing-off" which will pit the best non-qualifying acts and send that winner to the finals. If you plan to do a stunt or know someone who does tell them to hurry up and call because the table is almost set!

12/16/04- Jason "The Fake Rasta" Conti,  Ed Jarvis and Charles Hardy all tried and completed their Wing Bowl stunts at a local restaurant in Philadelphia. Eric Booker attempted an Onion stunt but was unsuccessful.

12/15/04- "Totally Appauling" ate some cow brains today in two minutes to qualify for Wing Bowl.

12/14/04- Humble Bob consumed 20 Hot Dogs (without the Bun) in 3:40. Bob consumed the Hot Dogs with great ease and comfort. The Easton Eating Assassin came very close to qualifying by attempting 50 Mcnuggets in 10 minutes. There were only two left as time expired. "Trash Can" attempted 30 large sized Drum Sticks in 20 Minutes but was unable to complete the stunt.

12/10/04-Wingbowl Update: All three contestants who attempted to get into the Wing Bowl were successful. Tim "The Titan" Janus easily polished away 5lbs of Cottage cheese in 2:20 without blinking. Wing Bowl fan favorite, "Chili Dog" qualifies again by downing 12 Grilled Cheese/Chili sandwiches in 7 Min 19 sec. . Contestant Number three, "Big Dennis" downed 5 Big macs in 9 minutes and 40 seconds. Big Dennis seemed to get off to a rough start but got his rhythm and easily finished under the 12 minutes allowed for the stunt.

12/9/04- Wing bowl field grows to Seven. "Just Don" who missed getting into Wing Bowl last year with a Hot Dog Stunt gets into this years contest by eating 2 Gallons of Ice Cream in 28 minutes. Review of WIP's footage shows that this was no easy stunt. "Just Don" got a cold reception from the WIP staff by dawning a Boston Red Sox Cap. Much like the Red Sox who pulled an amazing comeback against the odds, "Just Don" demonstrated the same guttiness in conquering this mound of Hard Ice Cream (Bryers) that was originally reported as Soft Ice Cream

The Second Qualifying stunt of the Day was done by "Wing Kong" who took on 2.3 lbs. of Liverwurst in 7 minutes. This may not seem like allot but if you don't like Liverwurst (Which Wing Kong doesn't) Eating 2.3 lbs. could seem like Eternity. Wing Kong literally got the last piece in his mouth as the last second was ticking down.

The Crew received and accepted a challenge from last years 2nd Place Finisher Eddie "Cookie" Jarvis who will do 6lbs of Spinach at an unspecified date.

Also, "Chili Dog" called in and will do a Grilled cheese Challenge. Unfortunately AICE reporters were unable to get info regarding amount or date.

12/08/04- Wing Bowl Update: "Jose" the Egg Eater who was to attempt 36 eggs in 3 minutes did not show up today. Gastro Gary, who got off to a bad start by pocketing 3 of the 33 Meatballs he was supposed to attempt in three minutes and getting caught, did not succeed in his stunt. He fell short and only did 23.
Thursday, an attempt at 2 gallons of soft Ice Cream will be made. WIP has heard from Badlands Booker who will attempt five baseball sized onions in 10 minutes on Thursday Dec 16th. There is also the possibility
that "Hungry" Charles Hardy and Jason "Crazy Legs" Conti will be accompanying Eric and attempting a stunt on that same day.

12/7/04-Wing Bowl update: Yesterday Kevin Vaughn attempted to do 6lbs of Crab Fries but did not succeed.
El Darodo does not make his much anticipated appearance today at WIP in an attempt to qualify for Wing Bowl. This was the Eater who was going to do 30 regular size Hot Dogs in 3 minutes and also said that he could do 10 lbs. of Chili in 4 minutes.

On tap for tomorrow in the studios of WIP will be an Egg Eating Stunt and a Big Mac Eating Stunt.

12/5/04-Sonya Thomas ate 5.9 lbs of Meatballs in 12 minutes to win a Meatball Eating Contest at a gambling establishment in New Jersey. Rich Lefevre took 2nd place with 5.2 lbs and Eric Booker took third with 5lbs. In 4th place was Charles Hardy with 4lbs 10 oz. and Ed Jarvis took 5th place. Although this contest was billed as the World Meatball Eating Championship, the relative totals for last April Meatball Meatball Eating Contest in Bayside New York, held at the Peter Pan Diner easily surpassed the above stated totals. The winner of that contest, and current World Meatball Eating Champion, Gentleman Joe Menchetti gobbled down 3lbs 4 oz. of meatballs in a mere 4 minutes. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers of that event (Bull Dozer Johnson, Mike "The Meat Eater" Murphy" Arnie "Chowhound" Chapman) have clearly showed their dominance in this discipline and would have been in the 6lb range if the event was 12 minutes long.

12/3/04- Adam "Da Bomb" Leffler qualifies for Wing Off. Adam Leffler attempted 4lbs of Cheesecake in 9 minutes and narrowoly missed qualifying for Wing Bowl 13. It has been reported that Adam was on his way to completing the stunt with 1:10 seconds left and had a "reversal of fortune". The Staff at WIP were very impressed with Adam's showmanship and were all hoping that this rabid Philidelphia Eagle fan would "bag" his stunt. Adam should be commended for giving a fantastic performance and attempting a difficult stunt. We think Adam will be back with vengenge during the "Wing-Off".

In other Wing Bowl news a guy named Wolfman ate 2lbs of shrimp covered in 160 meal worms to qualify for Wingbowl.

Tim Janus has finally come to terms with WIP 610 on the stunt he will be performing. After a few phone calls from Tim to the radio station to have his stunt accepted, it was decided that Tim "The Titan" will go up against 5lbs of cottage cheese in five Minutes.

On Tuesday, December 7th, "El Darodo" will be making his appearance at WIP. "Who is El Darodo" you ask?" Apparently he comes from North Philly and called in while Chowhound Chapman was doing his stunt and stated that he could easily break Chowhound's 5 minute Chili record and that he could eat 10lbs of Chili in 4 minutes!!! El Darodo, however, will be attempting hot dogs (regular 2 oz. sized dogs) and claims he can do 30 Hot Dogs in three minutes!! (without buns). Could this be the coming of the next Kobiyashi or another over enthusiastic Eagles fan who started drinking too early in the morning? Stay tuned.

12/2/04-
the Wingbowl field grows: a gentleman calling himself the Beast from the NE devoured a 16 in. pizza in 7 minutes, 50 seconds to claim the 4th spot.
