1/28/05- Pete “Broken Wing” Maurizio stunned spectators and competitors at the Sports Rock Café by winning the 3rd annual Pittsburgh ESPN Wing Championship Series by gobbling down 137 chicken wings.

In second place was returning Champion Ted “Capt Butthead” Wilson who finished with 134 Wings, followed

by Winglesberry who ate 118 Wings.

Several weeks prior to the contest, those Competitive Eating Fans who predicted a possible upset never figured

on “Broken Wing” as the eater to take Capt. Butthead's crown. Although “Broken Wing” finished a respectable 4th place last year and narrowly finished out of the money in ESPN’s marathon Hot Dog Eating contest “The Dawg Bowl” most were betting on Dawg Bowl Champion Bob “Killer Kuhns” (aka, Lord of the Wings or Kuhndog Kuhns) or New England’s #1 competitive Eater “Gentleman Joe” Menchetti or World Chili Eating Champion Arnie “Chowhound Chapman” as the most likely to win this years title.

Pittsburgh pride and talent were undoubtedly the two biggest factors that decided this years contest. Although, there were no totals declared before the final two minute lightning round which pitted the top five contestants against each other, it is likely that those eaters who finished from 3rd to 10th place were separated
by less than 10 wings.

Final Standings:

Pete Broken Wing Maurizio-137

Ted” Captain Butthead” Wilson-134

“Wingleberry” 118

“Gentleman Joe” Menchetti 116

“Lord of the Wings” (aka “Killer Kuhns) 113

Finalist to the 2nd Table**:

Shrek (97), Tex (96)

Master Wing Mun Ching (96)

ChowHound Chapman (95)

Fatboy Fil (93)
** These Eaters did not participate in final two minute round.

1/25/05- The Table has been set for ESPN. Pittsburgh's 2005 Wing championship Series. This year promises to be the most competitive field yet in the events three-year history. In addition to great local eaters like Broken Wing Maurizio, Lord of the Wings (aka Kuhn Dog Kuhns) and returning Champ "Capt Butthead" New England Eating Champion, "Gentlman Joe" Menchetti and New York's Champion of Chomp, Arnie "Chowhound" Chapman will also be at the table. Other Eaters that these guys better pay attentionto are Wingleberry, Tex, Master Wing Mun Ching, Fatboy Fil and Big Jim Roethliswinger.

Make no mistake about it, this will be a fiercely contested contest where the top eaters will be separated by only a few wings. Also, the local eaters, although good sports, will be looking to keep the Wing Title in Pittsburgh and will fight to the bitter end before surrendering the prestigious WCS title to Chowhound or Gentleman Joe. Gentleman Joe's appearance in the finals will only serve to remind the Pittsburgh Eaters of their beloved Steelers loss to the New England Patriots less than a week earlier.

1/23/05- The Field continues to grow for ESPN, Pittsburgh's Wing Championship Series. Wingleberry toped the list of qualifiers with 52 Wings while Shreik ate 40 and Wing Reaper 34.

1/16/05-The 2nd qualification round o fESPN 1250's Annual Wing Championship Series got underway

at the the Fuel & Fuddle on Oakland Ave in Downtown Pittsburgh Pa. Gentleman Joe Menchetti, America's top ranked Independent Competitive Eater, cruised through the tasty yet challenging 49 large chicken Wings in 12 minutes and 50 seconds to capture the first spot. In second place was the dog-eared Chowhound Chapman who finished with 45. In third place was X Wing Fighter (Nate) who took the third qualifying spot with 38 Wings. When asked about his performance, Chowhound Chapman, stated, “These were good sized chicken wings….the real problem is that you had to wrassle the meat off the bones and the usual sweeps were ineffective” Gentleman Joe and I have put up totals twice this amount, but not with this type of wing…….no wing contest is the same. All three Eaters will go onto the Wing Champioship Series on Friday, January 28th at the Sports Rock Café on Smallman St. Pittsburgh Pa.

1/12/05- The first qualifying round of ESPN 1250’s Annual Wing Championship Series got underway on January 10th at Wing Kings in Cranberry Pa. “Lord of the Wings” who is also also known as Bob “Killer Kuhns" or Koondog Kuhns finished on top with 51 Wings eaten. In second place was “Big Jim ”Roehtliswinger” who finished with 45 while Pete “Broken Wing” Maurizio took the final qualifying spot with 44 wings.

In case you never heard of “Killer” Kuhns or “Broken Wing” Maurizio they are some of America’s finest competitive eaters and will definitely be heard from on January 28th where 20-25 finalist will converge for the ESPN, Pittsburgh’s WCS Eating champion.

1/9/05 -Gentleman Joe Menchetti and ChowHound Chapman will be competing in ESPN 1250, Pittsburgh's Wing Eating Championship Series on January 16, 2005 at Fuel and Fuddle on Oakland Avenue from 8pm to 10pm.  Gjoe and ChowHound will have their work cut out for them and will have to beat defending champion Bob 'Killer' Kuhns and Pete 'Broken Wing' Maurizio, two of Pittsburgh's top eaters. It has been rumored that some of the Fiesta Bowl Pittsburgh Collegiate Hot Dog Eating Team will be competing in this wing competition; seeking revenge against Utah's team coach Gentleman Joe Menchetti.
