Menchetti Bugs Out!

Gentleman Joe Menchetti, perhaps the nations #1 Independent Competitive Eater, gobbled up 89 Cicadas to win LuLu's Cicada Eating Contest on June 11th in Washington D.C. Apparently Joe consumed more than the 2nd and 3rd place finishers combined. It appears that Joe really enjoyed the critters, considering he could have stopped at 50 or 60 and still have won easily. Gentleman Joe was supposed to be challenged by #11 ranked Chowhound Chapman. Unfortunately, the Hound was unable to participate due to the sudden death of a close friend.

When told about Joe's victory and performance, the Chowhound responded; "89 is a tremendous amount of Cicada's, I would have been hard pressed to keep that pace. I think Joe's performance is a testament to the ability and potential that Independent Eaters bring to the world of Competitive Eating.."

The spoils of victory is a paid vacation to New Orleans. Before Joe returned home from his victory in D.C. People are already starting to ask if Joe's is going to attempt to break Boyd Bullots the ACME Oyster record of 42.5 doz. When he visits cajun country....stay tuned.
