The 2nd Annual Best Pizza on Long Island Festival / Bake-Off was a FABULOUS PIZZA EATING CELEBRATION!

Pizzerias from Valley Stream to Montauk competed for the chance to be named the 'BEST PIZZA
ON LONG ISLAND.' Voting was set up on the Web site where visitors could vote for their favorite pizza.
We tallied the votes and invited the top pizzerias in each category to join us for the Pizza Festival / Bake-Off.

The LongIsland.com Pizza Festival 2004 took place on Oct. 2, 2004 at Adventureland in Farmingdale.
There was pizza related activities including a pizza eating competition, pie making demonstrations,
pizza sampling, pizza judging, meatball toss, a charity raffle, rides, games and attractions.

The Pizza Eating Competition was coordinated by Arnie "Chowhound" Chapman of the Association of
Independent Competitive Eaters (AICE). Congratulations to Gentleman Joe Menchetti on winning the Best
Pizza on Long Island Eating Competition. Gentleman Joe wolfed down 9 slices in 8 minutes followed
by Skinny Scott Soifer edging out Adam "Tiny" Goldman representing Adventureland by a bite, with almost
7 slices each. Joe took home the coveted Golden Pizza Slicer, an 'almost Tiffany's' retractable fork, gift certificates, t-shirts and $100.

Event goers were able to participate by purchasing discount tickets for sample slices of pizza.
Children took part in demonstrations with Pizza Pup on how to make mini-pizzas and the meatball toss.
The charity raffle was supported by local businesses who donated prizes for the cause.

Pizzeria owners donated their time, expertise and supplies to make this the biggest pizza event on
Long Island. Special thanks goes out to the following pizzerias:

The entire event was filmed by the Food Network to be included in a special called "All American Festivals,"
hosted by Jim O'Connor. The segment on the LongIsland.com Best Pizza Festival / Bake-Off should air
some time next year.

Special thanks to The Printing Experience of Seaford who donated the printing for the contest information flyers.
Bill Moseley, owner of BBA photography of Seaford donated his time and spent the entire day taking pictures
of the event -- thanks Bill!

Cremosa Foods, Long Island Food Distributor was an event sponsor and instrumental in getting the word out to
all the pizzerias about the contest. They also supplied the refrigeration and generously donated gift certificates
for free product for the participating pizzerias.

Marsal & Sons, Inc. Pizza Ovens graciously donated a beautiful marble gas pizza oven and an electric oven for
use throughout the day.

Adventureland provided the facilities and helped to ensure the event ran smoothly.

WBAB and WBLI were on hand giving away free stuff. They co-sponsored the event with radio promotion. They created
a buzz about the Pizza Contest and Festival. Prior to the Festival they held their own mini pizza competition in the
station and encouraged hungry listeners to eat pizza by visiting their local pizza shops.

This event was brought to you by LongIsland.com and would not have been possible without the expertise of our
event coordinator Ruthie Bergmann of Party Pizzazz. Kudos to all our volunteers and everyone that helped to make this
event an absolute success!

Photos of this year's event will be posted shortly.
In the meantime, the pizza voting polls will re-open in the Spring 2005 for the 3rd Annual Best Pizza on Long Island
Contest, so stay tuned!
